Giulio Casagrande is vice president and general manager of research and development for Numonyx Corporation. He is responsible for design methodology and technology development of existing and emerging technologies across all divisions.

Casagrande joined Numonyx from ST Microelectronics where he was vice president and director of research and development in the Flash Memory Group. He started the company’s flash development program, bringing the first products to market. He later created and directed the Memory Product Group Development Center in Catania. More recently, Casagrande led the evaluation of phase-change management memory, acting as a catalyst in the company’s decision to pursue the technology. Casagrande started his nearly 20 year tenure with ST as a MOS designer, leading the development of the company’s first EPROM products.

Casagrande earned a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Padua, Italy. He is well recognized in the technical field as the author of many papers and patents on non-volatile memory. He contributes substantially to conferences and serves on the ISSCC Memory Committee.
