Bauer received his B.S.E.E. from the University of California, Davis in 1985. He joined Intel's Memory Components Division that same year, working on EPROM design. In 1992, he went on to work on Flash memory design. In 1993 Bauer was responsible for circuit design and technology development of Intel’s first multi-level cell (MLC) program. For the past ten years Bauer has worked on advanced circuit design and memory technology development for both NOR Flash and NAND Flash. More recently, Bauer led Intel’s 34nm MLC NAND flash design and technology definition.
