A Year In Review

A message from Brian Harrison, Numonyx President and CEO

One year ago today, Numonyx entered the market as a stand-alone memory company with a focus on one goal: deliver innovative memory solutions.

In our first year of business as Numonyx, we achieved many significant milestones in support of our strategy. Our memory milestones encompassed the breadth of NOR, NAND and RAM memory technologies, as well as the new Phase Change Memory (PCM) technology. Gratefully, we have our customers, suppliers, ecosystem partners and our expert employees to thank for these achievements.

One year.
There is no shortage of bad news these days, especially in the memory market. But despite the formidable challenges in the industry, Numonyx experienced some great milestones in year one. We are solidly executing to our plan, and developed a scalable manufacturing network that allows us to adapt to cyclical demands. We continue to have a strong financial position, and are intensifying our focus on customer satisfaction.

One focus.
We have been relentless in delivering innovative memory solutions, and expanding and improving the industry’s broadest range of non-volatile memory. Here are a few highlights from year one:

  • Product introductions – Numonyx was the first company to launch (in June 2008) a low-power, double-data-rate (LPDDR) non-volatile memory, aptly named Velocity LP™ NV-RAM. In October of 2008, we introduced Axcell™ M29EW NOR flash memory for embedded applications, taking an industry-standard memory and enhancing it with Numonyx programming and security features. In December, we completed a major expansion of our NAND portfolio by introducing a new line-up of NAND flash memories for wireless, embedded and storage applications. And in the what’s new category, we successfully shipped the first units of Phase Change Memory prior to the new year.
  • Technology advancements – In July of 2008, we announced the transition of our NOR embedded product lines to 65nm StrataFlash® technology. We’ve moved our NAND manufacturing forward to 41nm technology, accelerating our Numonyx NAND offerings to industry-leading levels. And in February of 2009, we announced the first samples of NOR flash memory products using 45nm process technology, allowing us to significantly increase performance while providing customers with the architectural continuity and reliability that is essential to their designs.
  • Strategic relationships – Of major significance has been our ability to combine our expert resources, leading memory system ‘know-how’ and manufacturing strategy with others in the industry to ensure we are delivering the best possible memory solutions. With Elpida, we finalized a foundry agreement for 300mm NOR flash memory that enables us to expand our capacity while reducing costs. We expanded and extended our partnership with Hynix to develop and make cost-effective, 300mm-based NAND and low power DRAM. And we are actively qualifying multiple RAM suppliers to ensure stable and reliable supply.

One future.
As we move ahead into 2009 and beyond, our strategy remains the same. We are committed to being a reliable and stable memory solutions supplier—the memory partner you can count on during the current economic challenges. Our top priority is customer-orientation: if there is anything you need, we want to be the first to know.

Thank you for your support during our first year, and for placing your confidence in us. I hope you’ll agree with me that we have all the right components in place to be the memory supplier of choice—today and into the future.

Best Regards,

Brian Harrison
