Numonyx® e•MMC* Solutions

Simplify your mass storage design with e•MMC* solutions from Numonyx. Ideally suited for advanced applications such as storing pictures, video or music, or for mobile computing, Numonyx® e•MMC*  solutions meet the most demanding of system design needs. Any change in device technology and architecture typically requires modifications to the driver in the host controller, making system upgrades extremely difficult and expensive. The e•MMC*  Full Managed NAND approach simplifies host controller design by allowing the host to treat the flash as a pool of addressable blocks of data, without having to manage those blocks individually.

The Numonyx e•MMC* device characteristics can be summarized in the following way:

The e•MMC* devices incorporates traditional NAND specific functions, such as error-correcting code (ECC), wear-leveling and bad block management and flash translation layer in the internal memory controller, freeing the host of these tasks. The Numonyx e•MMC* solutions integrate a dedicated controller with high-density MLC-NAND, high-reliability SLC-NAND or a flex (flexible) solution. Furthermore, Numonyx e•MMC* solutions allow to minimize the software development time and to consequently increase cost effectiveness and time to market.

Numonyx e•MMC* device gives the Host system the possibility to configure some regions, characterized by different features in terms of both reliability and performances, in order to be adapted to different usage models. Typically, for mass storage applications – i.e. mp3 players application –, there are no strict constraints in terms of endurance, while to store code and software application there is the need to guarantee high capability of endurance and data retention.

This necessity to use different usage models for any application type can be translated in the addressable data on the high-performance area or high-density area (flex solution):
