The innovative technology features of PCM enable you to develop new memory systems that improve performance and reliability. One example is the “no erase” required feature. Software engineers will quickly see the system improvements PCM delivers with a simple read/write algorithm (similar to DRAM) compared to a flash device which must be erased and then written. This extra step required by the flash device complicates software development and slows system performance.
